Received a meter reading card?
Fieldforce Services works with many of Australia's largest utilities to read over 13 million gas, water and electricity meters each year.
If you have received a card at your residence requesting your meter reading be provided by telephone, mail or via this website, we have been unable to read your meter due to a safety or access issue. We take the safety of our meter readers extremely seriously and they are advised to not read a meter if it poses a potential risk to their safety.
Every day our meter readers are faced with a number of obstacles and risks in their daily work. Some of these safety issues may include:
- A dangerous or unrestrained dog on the property
- The meter is inaccessible or locked away behind a gate
- The meter is in a precarious location or surrounded by dangerous materials
- The meter is buried below topsoil or mulch
By ensuring our meter readers can access and read meters safely, you will not only avoid having your water, electricity or gas usage estimated on past consumption, but also avoid having to deal with the ramifications and costs of a dog attack or injury on your property.
Here are a few tips to ensure we are able to read your meter safely:
- Keep dogs safely secured during the day or place them in a different area to where the meter box is located. If you are at home at the time of the meter reader taking the reading, please take the dog inside or ensure it is behind a locked fence away from the meter - holding the dog is not sufficient.
- Advise us if you have a dog that is unrestrained during the day. This information can be kept on file to alert the meter reader before they enter the property. In some cases it may be necessary to discuss arrangements so meters can be read safely.
- Ensure the area around your meter is not cluttered with garden hoses, rubbish, dangerous materials and (if in an enclosed area) adequately lit to prevent any injuries
- Ensure the area around the meter is clear of topsoil and mulch
